We just gave
Scribely
’s Alt Text Checker a refresh, and I’m excited to share what’s new.
This free tool was designed to make it easy to check alt text on any
webpage. Just drop in a URL, and the Alt Text Checker scrapes image URLs
and alt attributes
from the page, scans for common issues, and gives you a downloadable
report with guidance on what to fix.
Here’s what we’re checking for:
- Missing alt text: The image doesn’t have a description in the alt
attribute.
- Alt text is a file name: The alt text is just a file name (e.g.,
image01.jpg) instead of a description.
- Alt text matches adjacent text: The alt text duplicates text already
visible nearby on the page.
What’s new in this release:
- A cleaner, more user-friendly design
- A new image count for quick reference
- Issues organized into Errors and Alerts
- Clear, actionable tips on how to fix each issue
- A more polished CSV export
- Automated date and time stamps on CSV exports
Here's what the CSV export gives you:
- Each image URL
- The image file name
- The current alt text
- Any flagged issues
- An explanation
- What to do next
Scribely's Alt Text Checker is a game changer for alt text workflows. If
you’re managing thousands of images, exporting alt text data can be a
real bottleneck.
We designed this tool to offer a quick, no-hassle workaround solution.
We’ve kept the tool free and open because we know how tough it can be to
manage alt text at scale, especially when your CMS or backend doesn’t
make that
data easily accessible. With this tool, you can generate a clean,
organized report in seconds.
Try it out and let me know what you think. We’re already working on
future updates. What would you love to see next?
