Dear Lidia,

Thanks for this excellent suggestion.

Dear Peter,

Hope you will really consider taking some time out to participate as speaker in DCAD session. I understand your frustration and can relate to it as well. But we can win against these stereotypes with determination and persistence. In the IG system overall, people with disabilities are very few. That’s why we really need people like yourself with us to join their voice with us. Moreover, ‘nothing about us without us’ can only become reality if we come forward to participate.

I am available for a telephonic or zoom chat however you are comfortable with. Just let me know offlist.

Best,

Dr. Muhammad Shabbir,

Hi Peter.

Good point.

Perhaps, you are able to participate and speak during DCAD session?

I’ll speak to Muhammad over the coming days. But just feels fairly pointless to be honest. One of the main obstacles to improved cognitive accessibility is a lack (or absence) of understanding of what cognitive accessibility/cognitive disability is in the first place. And this starts with the disability rights/advocacy movement itself, where people with cognitive disabilities are conspicuously absent.

Equally, given the history of the disability rights movement and its origins, we understand why this is. Also that everyone has their own battles to fight. But change is a long time coming.

To all those replying to this, what part of “cognitive disabilities” is so difficult to understand?

If you don’t have a cognitive disability (e.g. autism, ADHD etc.), don’t presume to speak on it.

Hi All,

As we gear up for the IGF2023 in Kyoto, Japan, from 8-12 October 2023, I am reaching out to all of you for speaker suggestion.

We are actively seeking suggestions for a speaker with cognitive disabilities to participate in the DCAD session at IGF2023. We believe that diverse perspectives enrich our discussions and understanding of accessibility and disability-related issues. If you know of an individual or organization that be a suitable speaker for the DCAD session, please share their contact information or details with us. We are committed to ensuring that the voices of all individuals are heard and valued within the DCAD community.

Thank you for your continued support and engagement.

Please reach out to me directly with suggestions for speakers.
